Within this category we can find all of the different elements from which a guitar is built. Many of such parts get worn down with time, like for example frets or knobs.
Frets are metal plates placed on a guitar’s neck. Our strings rest against a given fret and then the fret causes it to shorten its length, assigns it a certain pitch. Classical guitars usually have 19 frets, whereas acoustic guitars can have 20-22 frets, and electric guitars around 21-24 of them. The most popular sizes of frets are jumbo or medium jumbo.
Typical electric guitars are usually equipped with two knobs: to regulate the volume and the tone. With time we can start hearing some interference while we use them. If we clean up the knob and it still keeps worrying us, it’s necessary to replace it, seeing as they simply have their own life-span.
Tuning keys are placed at the headstock of a guitar and serve to tense the strings to simply set your tuning. If they’re worn down or poorly fixed they’re going to cause your guitar to go out of tune pretty fast. There are open-gear or closed-gear tuning pegs, as well as locking tuners.
A guitar pickup is an element, which processes the vibrations of the strings into electronic signals. The way your guitar sounds like heavily relies on those. Two of the most common pickups are single-coils or humbuckers. Single-coil pickups are very sensitive for any disruption from the outside, but essentially produce a clearer and crispier sound. Humbuckers on the other hand, are built with double coils connected out of phase. It lessens the outside influence on the sound, and helps to produce a stronger signal, thus they are usually more handy for heavier music. Most popular producers are for example DiMarzio, Seymour Duncan or EMG, which is especially known from producing active pickups with extra pre-amps.
A bridge is an element that transmits the vibrations of given strings on a soundboard of the instrument. Classical and acoustic guitars have locked bridges, whereas electric guitars can also have moveable vibrato bridges, commonly called Floyd Rose. We can move it with the help of a designed vibrato arm, moving the sound to higher or lower registers. Some of those are additionally locked in a way that your guitar doesn’t really go out of tune too much while you use it.
Some other parts you’ll be able to find in our store:
the nut, which is the element at the beginning part of our fretboard, accountable for holding the strings within their right distance to each other.
The pickup switch, allowing you to select a given pickup; also with some different versions of usage, working as a so called kill switch with an effect of complete signal cut down, used for example by musicians like Tom Morello.
