Notes, books, music papers at our store
When buying your first instrument, you have to also think how to learn playing on it. There are a lot of methods. We can find a tutor or join a youth club in which lessons of playing on instruments are given. You can also learn from the Internet, but it is a risk. Unfortunately, advice is usually given by people who can’t play the instrument and it leads to misunderstanding. Another option is to learn from books and guides. This method has a lot of advantages. We can use book at any time of the day and we can be sure that the knowledge included in them is professional and it won’t lead us to misunderstanding. It is worth to familiarise with some chosen coursebooks.
Guitar and bass
Guitars are currently the most popular instruments, so it is not a surprise that there are a lot of books about them. It is worth to find books which are accessibly written, because it enables us to learn easier.
We can play electric guitar in many ways, from gentle, warm sound to sharp distorted riffs. We should start learning to play the guitar with a manual ‘Gitarowe wyzwania’ by Krzysztof Błaś. This book is a bestseller recommended on many online forums. We can find a lot of useful advice and lessons in it in a intelligible form, so learning to play the electric guitar won’t cause any problems.
Playing the acoustic guitar is not only accompaniment for a vocalist. This instrument has a much wider usage. For many people acoustic guitar is a solo instrument, on which guitarists play bass, rhythm section and melody line simultaneously. Such playing is called fingerstyle and mastering it makes us a one-man orchestra. Fingerstyle is beautiful but also difficult music art, fortunately there are guides which can help us, such as ‘Fingerstyle’ by Robert Kordylski. In this book we can find a solid introduction to play fingerstyle, many advice and fifty valuable exercises. There is a CD attached to the book.
Learning how to play the bass guitar, keep in mind that this instrument is not only for being a background for the rest of a band. A good bass player can that an opus will be associated with the bass line which he wrote. To be a good bass player you have to practice a lot, especially with a good book. An example of such a book can be ‘My bass guitar’ by Tomasz Grabowy. It is a comprehensive coursebook, full of lessons and examples. There is a CD attached to the book.
Keyboards, stringed and percussion instruments
It is obvious that not everybody wants to play the guitar. There are so many instruments that it would be a problem to count all of them. Learning to play any instrument can be difficult, fortunately there are a lot of coursebooks. On the market you can find coursebooks teaching how to play the keyboard, the piano, stringed or percussion instruments, and many others. Looking for a book for yourself, it is worth to think if it is good for us, because they also differ in the level of teaching.
Do you know that…
In the past there weren’t so many guides, and if one was written it was difficult to get it, so how did musicians coped with learning then? Those from more affluent families could afford to go to music school, but those poorer had to play from hearing. An example can be a prominent Australian guitarist, who as a child, used to sit near the record player and try to play what he had heard. Sometimes music was too fast for him, so he put coins on the gramophone record to make it heavier and slower, thanks to that he could catch all the fastest passages.
Summary
Don’t feel embarrassed when buying music books, because there will always be a gap in our musical knowledge which can be fulfilled with a good book. We have to choose books carefully and remember to practice systematically, because it is better to play half an hour a day than few hours once a week.
