Guitar and bass guitar straps
Straps not only serve to basically support your instrument, but can also make a musician stand out with their own individual style. They come in different types and can be made of different materials, as well as also may differ in their length. They can be used with a guitar, but not only. Regardless of your taste, if you own a stringed instrument you’re going to need a durable and comfortable strap of good quality, which also looks good at the same time. While buying our perfect strap it’s good to consider all of these aspects, as well as our budget. How much we want to spend should also be connected with a general idea of how often are we going to use it.
Actually, till this day we can’t be sure who invented the first guitar strap, though we can stick to the point it was derived in Spain in 15th century. It certainly didn’t look like all the straps we use today, more likely resembled a piece of string that could be used to hold a mandolin or a classical guitar at the time. Currently guitar straps are pieces of flat material, which is attached to two ends of a guitar, and allows you to hang the instrument on one of your arms, just so your hands could remain free to use. There’s so many different types of straps, that it would be impossible to talk about all of them. We’ll stick to the basic types, which are nylon, suede or leather.
Nylon straps are usually the cheaper ones, which at the same time stands for the most popular choice among guitarists. You can assume that you’ll find one within every guitarists equipment, they are very reliable. You know that you can count on the quality of a simple nylon strap, besides the fact that they’re cheap, they’re also pretty compact and not take too much space when you roll them up.
Another type is suede. They’re a bit more expensive, though still affordable, and hold a huge fan base. For once more, they’re compact and can be packed easily without taking too much space. Brands like Planet Waves, Ernie Ball or Franklin are the main providers of that type of straps. We can use them with different types of guitars, as well as with basses, mandolins or banjos.
All in all, nothing beats a leather strap. They owe it to their looks, smell, and the fact that they’re simply nice in touch. They’re available in the biggest range of different types when it comes to color, size, but also design. We can find a simple strap made of one piece of leather, or there are more complex designs that might for example look like a snake’s skin. On top of that, producers equip most of their straps with original, metal buckles, bolts and monograms. Diversity is really huge, but their biggest advantage stays in the fact that they’re really comfortable to wear, and they’re much more durable. If we take proper care of our leather strap, it might serve us well for many years. The one disadvantage is that they’re less flexible, so they definitely take up more space while packing or storing them.
When we choose the right strap we should think quite precisely of its purpose and how often is it going to serve us. It’s also worth to have a few different straps for different occasions. In our store you can find lots of straps of the best quality.
